GOSAINKUNDA HELAMBU TREK : 16 Days

Gosai Kunda, also spelled Gosainkunda and Gosain Kunda is an alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake in Rasuwa district, Langtang National Park, Nepal.It is the site of regular Hindu pilgrimage. It is situated at the height of 4380 metres (14370 feet) from sea level with a surface of 13.8 ha (34 acres). Together with associated lakes, the Gosaikunda Lake complex is 1,030 ha (4.0 sq mi) in size and has been designated a Ramsar site in September 2007.
Langtang trekking is panoramic from where you can see best view of snowy peaks Langtang Lirung, Gang Chhenpo, Naya Kangri, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal and if you go Gosainkund and Helambu you will see Mt. Manaslu, Gourisankar and many more white peaks.
The Gosaikunda area has been delineated as a religious site. Hindu mythology attributes Gosaikunda as the abode of Hindu deities Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri. The Hindu scriptures Bhagavata Purana and Vishnu Purana, and the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata refer to Samudra manthan, which is directly related to the origin of Gosaikunda. Its holy waters are considered of particular significance during Gangadashahara and the sacred thread festival Janai Purnima when thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India visit the area.
It is believed to have originated from the digging of the land by the Lord Shiva's weapon Trishul (holy 3 pointed sword)after he drank the poison from samudra-manthan and desperately wanted cold water to drink to quench the overwhelming heat of the poison inside himself. The lake melts and sips down to form the Trishuli river and remains frozen for six months in winter October to June. There are 108 lakes in this area, small to medium in size.
Several Hindu pilgrimage are visit the Gosain kunda as well as trekkers and have to cross the challenging Lauribinayak pass which is elevation 4610 meters (15120 ft) on its outskirts and Helambu valley is green valley and easy trekking so people trek Helambu area to see nature beauty and visit the old monasteries in the region.
The trail to Gosainkunda climbs either from Dhunche or Syabru through lush rhododendron hillsides to Sing Gompa. East of the lakes Lauribina La (4610 m.) pass leads to Helambu. The trail descends to Tharepati, where it divides into two return routes to Kathmandu. The shorter way rides the ridge south through cool rhododendron forests passing several Tamang villages, and crests toward the Kathmandu Valley rim at Burlang Bhanjyang, some 1100 m. above Sundarijal. This ridge forms the divide between two of Nepal's major river systems - the Gandaki, which extends west to Dhaulagiri, and the Saptakosi whose tributaries extend east to Kanchenjunga on the border with Sikkim.
The other trail from Tharepati plunges 1000 m. to a tributary of the Melamchi Khola and above it the sherpa village of Helambu. Stone houses scatter across the terraced fields above an old gompa (monastery) dressed with tall prayer flags. A gompa set on the ridge above Tarke Ghyang commands excellent views of the Himalaya, looking north toward Ganja La pass and Dorje Lakpa (6966 m./22854 ft.) and a number of peaks over 6000 m.
Our trek start from Syabru Besi to follow Kyangjing Gompa (3800m.), Sing Gompa (3254m.) to Gosain Kunda( 4380m.) and then to Helambu region to Ghopte, Mangan kharka Goth, Gulphu Bhanjyang and to Chisapani Sundarijal before back to Kathmandu.
