Mount Manaslu - 8163 meters/26775 feet; is the 8th highest peak in the world and is located near to the border of Nepal and Tibet. The name Manaslu means "The Spirit-Mountain" in the local dialect, referring to the benevolent and strong deity, which dwells within. Trekking in Manaslu is one of the most delightful adventures.
Manaslu trekking is exciting adventure trekking route; offers huge mountain scenery, Tibetan culture, amazing glacier lakes, old monasteries, leading ethnic groups, typical Nepalese houses, green forest full of pines, oaks, rhododendrons bamboo and fascinating flora and fauna, providing with pristine mountain views, rich culture and genuine adventure sum up the trek experience around the 8156m Manaslu. If you would like to sample both extremes of the trekking experience in Nepal, and really get to see what all the fuss is about in terms of the most breath-taking mountain scenery on earth, then look no further than the circuit of Manaslu via the Larkya La. This area offers a combination of rich culture heritage, unsurpassed beauty and biological diversity.
The areas to the east of the Annapurna are the ranges of Manaslu group. Few visitors trek to this area, which makes a visit here all the more unique and unspoiled. The area is bordered by River Budhi Gandaki and to west by River Marshyangdi. This area is marked by two cultural highlights: Gorkha, which is the ancestral seat of reigning Shah Dynasty and the temple of Manakamana.
Plants to be seen around here are pine, rhododendron, wildlife include barking deer, pike and Himalayan marmots. Birds to be sighted in the region are pheasant, raven and chough. People of Tibetan origin inhabit several villages.
The Tibetan enclave of Nupri, north of Manaslu at the head of the Buri Gandaki, was closed to foreigners for years on account of its proximity to Tibet. The area was surreptitiously opened in 1991, but it took several years for the word to get out.
The best time for trekking Manaslu is spring and autumn season. A few teahouses are seen in the Manaslu Conservation area; however, teahouse trekking is not suggested option. Government regulations require, 'one should have joined the registered trekking company' for all trekking arrangement.
